Emerging Covid-19 Related Class Actions in 2021

 

Emerging Covid-19 Related Class Actions is the fourth part in Bridgeport's Class Action Series. The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to potentially new and large sources of liability. Causes of action including Price Gauging, Failure to Refund, Improper Denial of Coverage, False Advertising are being filed and litigated nationwide. Other cases involve negligence and product liability, securities fraud and insurance fraud. This 90 minute teleConference  will talk about the causes of action, remedies and settlement of such cases. We will also examine pending state and federal legislation which has been proposed as a result of the pandemic. The program faculty is comprised of lawyers who are filing and defending Covid-19 related Class Actions. 

Faculty:

Robert J. Herrington, Co-Chair of Greenberg Trauig's firm’s Class Action Litigation Group, focuses his practice on defending consumer products companies in complex, multi-party litigation, including class actions, government enforcement litigation, product defect litigation and mass torts. Rob is the author of the best-selling book, Verdict for the Defense (Sutton Hart Press 2011), and a co-author of The Class Action Fairness Act: Law and Strategy (ABA Publishing 2013) and Class Action Strategy and Practice Guide (ABA Publishing 2018). Rob was recognized as the "Class Action Litigation Lawyer of the Year" (2017) by the Century City Bar Association. In 2013, 2014 and 2015, Rob was named in Law360's list of "Top Attorneys Under 40" for Class Actions.

Gillian L. Wade leads Milstein Jackson Fairchild and Wade’s consumer fraud and class action litigation department.  Since joining the firm in 2005, Gillian’s practice has focused on representing plaintiffs in complex litigation and consumer class actions stemming from a wide range of unlawful activities including violations of California’s unfair competition law and false advertising law, antitrust violations, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, data breach and privacy violations, financial abuse of the elderly and disabled statutes, employment violations, warranty and product liability laws, and civil rights abuses. Gillian has been involved in the resolution of over 75 consumer fraud class actions.

Timothy Blood is a co-founding partner with Blood Hurst & O’Reardon and the firm’s managing partner. For almost thirty years, his practice has focused on complex litigation, including class action litigation. Mr. Blood has tried class action cases and is highly regarded in the field of consumer protection law, including California’s Unfair Competition Law and Consumers Legal Remedies Act.  Mr. Blood has represented millions of purchasers of food, food supplements and over-the-counter drugs arising out of various advertising claims made by manufacturers and retailers. He has also represented owners of motor vehicles in product liability cases and consumer credit and mortgage borrowers against a number of major lending institutions, including Bank of America, Washington Mutual, Countrywide, GMAC and Wells Fargo.


This program is approved for 1.5 hrs of CA MCLE general credit hours.

Bridgeport is a State Bar of CA provider of MCLE (Provider 11872) This program offers 1.5 hrs of MCLE. Bridgeport will assist attorneys from outside CA obtain CLE in accordance with the rules of their state.
