Gender Issues in the Practice of Law

Gender Issues in the Practice of Law will be an open forum discussion of issues faced by women inside and outside of the courtroom.  The faculty includes women from all facets of law, including judges, partners in big law firms, and solo practitioners.  

The program will feature two distinctive, but connected roundtable discussions. The first hour will focus on matters within the practice of law in law firms or other legal departments. The second area of discussion will focus on courtroom issues. An example of topics to be addressed include such issues as maintaining partnership track, pay equity, and experiences unique to women inside and outside the courtroom.  The goal is to have a transparent discussion that helps and encourages women in a safe environment. Questions will be encouraged from audience members.

The teleConference offers 2.5 hrs of California MCLE credit for ethics.

Hon. Anne-Christine Massullo is a Judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County. in Complex Civil Litigation. Prior to her appointment in 2006, she practiced law at several national law firms until she joined the U.S. Attorney Office where she handled civil and criminal cases.

Justice Teri L. Jackson is an Associate Justice of the Court of Appeal, First Appellate District, Division Three. Judge Jackson was the first African-American woman ever appointed to the San Francisco County Superior Court when she was appointed by Gov. Gray Davis in 2002. Prior to joining the bench, Justice Jackson was of counsel at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP from 1997 to 2002.

Krysta Kauble Pachman is a Partner at Susman Godfrey where she represents plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes commercial litigation, including class actions, patent cases, copyright matters, and other disputes. She has successfully litigated on behalf of and against some of the largest companies in the world.

Erin Meyer focuses her practice at Keker Van Nest & Peters on high-stakes, complex litigation, including challenging employment and consumer class actions, commercial disputes, and criminal cases. A Partner at the firm, Erin has significant trial experience including several cases that have garnered national attention. Erin received her A.B., from Duke University and her J.D. from Yale Law School.

Megan O'Neill is a founder of DTO Law, where she focuses her practice on high-stakes litigation. She has a specialized focus in the class action arena. She regularly defends Fortune 500 companies in consumer class actions alleging unfair competition, false advertising, and other claims. Prior to founding DTO, Megan was a litigator at Quinn Emanuel. Megan is graduate of Stanford Law School.

Michelle Ybarra is a Partner at Keker Van Nest & Peters, where she focuses on intellectual property, class action, and legal malpractice disputes spanning the sharing economy, cybersecurity, and gaming industries, among others. She has also effected sweeping changes through her pro bono work, including challenging California’s Proposition 8 on behalf of individual married plaintiffs, and representing a San Quentin death row inmate in a successful Administrative Procedures Act challenge to California’s lethal injection protocol, which stayed executions in California.  Michelle received her B.A. from Harvard and her J.D. from University of Chicago.

This program is approved for 2 hrs of CA MCLE ethics credit hours.

Bridgeport is a State Bar of CA provider of MCLE (Provider 11872) This program offers 2 hrs of MCLE. Bridgeport will assist attorneys from outside CA obtain CLE in accordance with the rules of their state.
