Litigating and Defending CCPA and Privacy Claims

 

Litigating & Defending CCPA and Data Breach Cases is the third part in Bridgeport's Class Action Series. Data breach class action litigation has begun under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). The new California law authorizes a private cause of action against a covered businesses if there is a failure to implement reasonable safeguards to protect personal information results in a data breach. Businesses that collect or use personal information, do business in California and meet certain thresholds must know about the CCPA. The CCPA took effect January 1, 2020 and we will examine how the CCPA has already impacted consumer class action claims with major online businesses already having been sued for CCPA and Privacy cases. This teleConference is a must for attorneys who represent California businesses, litigate against them and California in-house counsel and regulators.

Faculty:

Viola Trebicka is a partner in Quinn Emanuel’s Los Angeles office and the co-chair of the firm's Data Privacy and Security Practice. Ms. Trebicka maintains a diverse complex commercial litigation and trial practice, with particular emphasis on data privacy and security matters, antitrust litigation, intellectual property disputes, and class actions. She represents both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of state and federal jurisdictions across the country.

John A. Yanchunis leads Morgan and Morgan's National Class Action Department. Mr. Yanchunis has served as lead, co-lead, or class counsel in numerous class actions in a wide variety of areas affecting consumers. Mr. Yanchunis is recognized as a leader of the plaintiff bar in privacy and data breach class actions. Recent major cases include litigating against Yahoo! Inc., Target Corporation, Equifax, Inc., the U.S. Office Personnel Management, MGM Resorts, Marriott and many more.

Bridgeport is a State Bar of CA provider of MCLE (Provider 11872) This program offers 1.5 hrs of MCLE. Bridgeport will assist attorneys from outside CA obtain CLE in accordance with the rules of their state.
