Mastering the Deposition 2021 part three

Deposition Objections and How to Handle Them

Bridgeport's Deposition Workshop is now a series of four teleConferences! Each teleConference is tied together. The ability to plan and take outstanding depositions determines the value of your case, the outcome of dispositive motions, and who wins at trial. From developing the big picture down to formulating the narrowest questions, learn from a faculty of noted trial attorneys that has conducted more than 5,000 depositions. For many clients, your depositions are their only day in court. Make every question count! Learn techniques used by the best trial lawyers to get the most out of every deposition.

The third installment in this series will feature a lively talk on deposition objections and how to handle them. Knowing the difference between proper and improper objections in a deposition can help lawyers better represent their clients. Attorneys are familiar with the basic grounds for objection. The key is to know the specific grounds for objections, and when it is most advantageous to use them. It is critical to discern which objections matter, and which objections can be ignored. Developing a systematic approach to deal with deposition objections is a necessary skill for litigators. We will explore both authority and guidance for some of the trickier objections commonly heard at depositions.   This program focuses on the process, best use and importance of mastering objections during depositions.

Topics will include:

  • The basics of Objections
  • A close look at Objections under California Law
  • Strategic Use of Objections
  • When not to object and why?
