Where do I clock-in now? A discussion about remote employee compliance with timekeeping policies and other current off-the-clock work topics in the Covid era will feature a panel of experts discussing compensable time issues raised by Covid across industries, as well as existing common areas of dispute (e.g., security checks, walking/travel time, computer boot-up, driving, and donning and doffing PPE.) The panel will present case studies, research findings regarding employee timekeeping behavior, and research from the employer’s perspective. In addition, panelists will share strategies to reduce the risk of violations and maintain employee timekeeping compliance in a range of workplace environments.

Doug Farmer is a shareholder in the firm’s San Francisco office. He has served as lead defense counsel to major California employers in nearly a hundred wage and hour class actions. He has tried to verdict a wide variety of employment cases in California state and federal courts, including wage and hour, disability discrimination, FMLA/CFRA, sexual harassment, age discrimination, pregnancy discrimination and other wrongful termination matters.

Brian Jorgensen dedicates his practice to representing employers in a broad range of high-stakes, complex litigation matters with a focus on class actions. His experience is particularly deep in wage and hour litigation, where he has had repeated success in defeating class and/or collective certification, as well as securing dismissal through motions attacking the legal sufficiency or merits of claims.

Catherine Strauss is an adviser and advocate for employers with workforces in Ohio and nationally. She is also a skilled coach to human resource professionals and business executives. Preferring practical outcomes based on a keen knowledge of the law and common sense judgment, Catherine is an effective adviser in managing risks and conflict avoidance.

Christian Schreiber is a founding partner of Olivier Schreiber & Chao LLP. Chris represents individuals in class action and collective action cases involving employment, civil rights, consumer law, and financial services matters. He has litigated cases across the United States, and also handles individual employment and civil rights cases, as well as Qui Tam and whistleblower cases. Chris has been selected as a “Super Lawyer” by Northern California Super Lawyers magazine for the last eight years (2013-2020). He was named a “Rising Star” in 2012.

Elizabeth Arnold is a Director in the Labor and Employment Practice at Berkeley Research Group (BRG) and has and has been advising clients on issues related to employment practices for nearly two decades. She is an expert in the wage and hour space and provides advisory services and testimony on behalf of employees and companies nationwide. Ms. Arnold has conducted research at organizations of various sizes, from small non-profits to global digital retailers, and in industries ranging from retail and transportation to professional services and healthcare.

This program is approved for 3 hrs of CA MCLE general credt hours.

Bridgeport is a State Bar of CA provider of MCLE (Provider 11872) This program offers 3 hrs of MCLE. Bridgeport will assist attorneys from outside CA obtain CLE in accordance with the rules of their state.
