Delivering a World Class Experience for Legal Clients in a Covid-19 Environment
Almost every law firm claims to “put clients first” or deliver “excellent client service.”  But all too often, the client experience does not align with these generic claims.  In 2017, the average Net Promoter Score (NPS) for client satisfaction for law firms was just 17—out of a score of 100.  Clients often look at working with law firms with dread and feel the only service they offer is a finely tuned clock that tracks billable hours.  Lawyers are good at meticulously drafting legal documents and solving problems for their clients.  They view their “product” as the legal advice or work product.  But the product of any law firm should be the entire experience of interacting with the firm.
 
Clients are no longer comparing your firm to other law firms—but to the experience they receive from other companies that are known for an excellent customer experience such as Apple, Amazon, Southwest or the Mandarin Oriental.

One year into AB5 and following Proposition 22 California Employers and Litigators still wrestle how to classify independent contractors and employees and which employees are exempt. In Dynamex Operations West, Inc. v. Superior Court, the California Supreme Court has provided guidance in regards to independent contractor/employee classification with the adoption of the ABC test for determining how to classify an employee or independent contractor. Issues relating to exempt or non-exempt status of workers continues to be fertile ground for litigation in California. This focused program will look in detail at these issues as well as at liability, damages in these cases, settlement.

Emerging Covid-19 Related Class Actions is the fourth part in Bridgeport's Class Action Series. The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to potentially new and large sources of liability. Causes of action including Price Gauging, Failure to Refund, Improper Denial of Coverage, False Advertising are being filed and litigated nationwide. Other cases involve negligence and product liability, securities fraud and insurance fraud. This 90 minute teleConference  will talk about the causes of action, remedies and settlement of such cases. We will also examine pending state and federal legislation which has been proposed as a result of the pandemic. Wage & Hour Update and PAGA is the first part in Bridgeport's Wage & Hour Series. Bridgeport’s annual Wage & Hour Update explores and explains in-depth, the critical and changing aspects of Wage & Hour litigation.  This year's program will focus on AB 5 and Prop 22, the ever increasing use of PAGA in wage and hour litigation; key developments in the case law such as Uber & Lyft, Duran; Iskanian; Ayala, interpreting the white collar exemptions, New Legislation, Regulations and Statutes and the enforcement and litigation of arbitration agreements.   The unique format for the program will feature an explanation and then discussion of the aforementioned topics. Session 1 will provide an update and overview of important Wage & Hour Issues that affect California employers and Employees. Litigating & Defending CCPA and Data Breach Cases is the third part in Bridgeport's Class Action Series. Data breach class action litigation has begun under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). The new California law authorizes a private cause of action against a covered businesses if there is a failure to implement reasonable safeguards to protect personal information results in a data breach. Businesses that collect or use personal information, do business in California and meet certain thresholds must know about the CCPA. The CCPA took effect January 1, 2020 and we will examine how the CCPA has already impacted consumer class action claims with major online businesses already having been sued for CCPA and Privacy cases.
